Despite Everything – Hevî her tiştî
Germany, 2025
Director: Robert Krieg 90 min

In war-torn northern Syria, something unexpected is emerging: hope. Amidst ruins, threats, and deprivation, women in Rojava are asserting themselves with remarkable determination.

They are founding villages, teaching children, setting up workshops – and defending not only their lives, but also a vision of freedom and equality. Director Robert Krieg shows the daily struggle for survival and the extraordinary courage for self-empowerment in a region that receives little attention worldwide. A moving documentary about the quiet but unstoppable emergence of a new society – carried by women.

The documentary provides an impressive insight into the lives of self-determined women in Rojava, an autonomously administered region in northern and eastern Syria. Amidst war, destruction, and political uncertainty, they fight unwaveringly for their independence and a grassroots democratic society.

The protagonists of thefilm – including tech-savvy Argin, artisan Jehan, single mother Delal, multi-talented Sidan, taekwondo teacher Ghoufran, and deaf silk embroiderer Hiba – represent a new generation of courageous women. Each of them follows her own path, using her skills and overcoming personal and social hurdles.

With calm but powerful images, the film tells of lived solidarity, resilience, and the building of a peaceful future—beyond patriarchal structures and despite the most adverse circumstances.

Die Unbeugsamen (The Unyielding)1 + 2

Die Unbeugsamen (The Unyielding) 1
Germany, 2021
Director: Torsten Körner 100 min

THE UNYIELDING tells the story of women in the Bonn Republic who, as true pioneers, literally had to fight for their participation in democratic decision-making processes against men obsessed with success and drunk with power. Undaunted, ambitious, and with infinite patience, they pursued their path and defied prejudice and sexual discrimination. Interwoven with previously unseen archive footage, documentary filmmaker and journalist Torsten Körner has woven an emotionally moving chronicle of West German politics from the 1950s to reunification. The images he has found unfold with a force that allows us to rediscover cinema as a place of political self-actualization. An insightful historical document that makes an invaluable contribution to the current discussion.

DIE MÖLLNER BRIEFE (THE MÖLLN LETTERS)
Germany 2025
Director: Martina Priessner 96 min

In November 1992, the racist arson attack in Mölln destroyed the lives of İbrahim Arslan and his family. İbrahim, who was seven years old at the time, survived, but lost his sister, his cousin, and his grandmother. The town of Mölln received hundreds of letters expressing solidarity, but for almost three decades, no one took any notice of them. The film follows İbrahim as he discovers these letters and meets three of their authors. At the same time, it paints a complex portrait of the ongoing trauma that continues to affect İbrahim and his siblings to this day. İbrahim has found a way to deal with the events by actively fighting racism and promoting a culture of remembrance that focuses on the victims. His brother Namik, on the other hand, is still at the beginning of his journey of coping.

The film not only highlights the experiences of the survivors, it also reveals the great solidarity that existed at the time – a solidarity that the victims were unaware of until then. It builds a bridge between the past and the present and takes a perspective of remembrance that gives the voices of those affected the space and recognition they deserve.
